Property Settings

Module: Settings | Platform: Web

Property Settings controls the data model for your core entities — which fields appear on forms, how detail pages are laid out, what default values are set, and how file folders are structured. This is one of the most powerful configuration surfaces in Appello.

Overview

Property Settings — custom fields and metadata configuration for projects, jobs, and users

Entity Selector

At the top of the page, a dropdown lets you switch between five entity types. Each entity has its own independent configuration:

EntityDescription
ProjectsTop-level work containers.
JobsIndividual scopes of work under a project.
CompaniesCRM company records.
ContactsCRM contact records.
DepartmentsInternal organizational departments.

Tabs (per entity)

Each entity has four configuration tabs:

Manage Layout

A drag-and-drop layout builder that controls how the entity's detail page is organized.

  • Layout Sections (left panel) — define sections (e.g. "Project Information", "Customer Information") and drag fields into them. Each field can be tagged as Default (included automatically) or Required (must be filled before saving).
  • Available Attributes (right panel) — fields not yet assigned to a section. Drag them into a section to include them on the detail page.
  • Create Section — add a new collapsible section to the layout.
  • Create Attribute — define a new custom field.
  • Collapse Sections toggle — set whether sections default to collapsed or expanded.

Custom Properties

Define custom fields specific to this entity type. Custom properties extend the standard data model with fields unique to your business (e.g. "Insulation Type", "Contract Value").

Default Properties

Set default values that auto-populate when a new record of this entity type is created. Saves time and ensures consistency.

Default Folder Structure

Configure the folder template that is automatically created in the Files tab when a new record is created. Ensures every project or job starts with a consistent file organization.

note

Property Settings has 5 entities × 4 tabs = 20 unique configuration views. The layout, custom properties, defaults, and folder structure differ for each entity. During initial setup, configure Projects and Jobs first, as they are the most commonly used entities.
