Authentication
This guide covers how to sign in to the Appello mobile application, reset your password, and install the app on your device.
This documentation is for the mobile application. If you are using the desktop web application, refer to the Web Application Authentication guide.
About the Mobile App
The Appello mobile application is a Progressive Web App (PWA). This means you access it through your device's web browser using your organization's mobile instance URL, and you can optionally install it to your home screen for a native app-like experience. There is no separate download required from an app store.
Signing In
To access Appello on your mobile device, navigate to your organization's Appello mobile instance URL in your mobile browser.
Steps
- Open your mobile browser (Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android) and go to your Appello mobile instance URL.
- Wait for the app to load. You will see the Appello logo and a loading indicator while the app connects.
- Once the sign-in screen appears, enter your credentials (the same email/username and password you use for the desktop web application).
- Tap the Sign in button.
After signing in, you will be taken to the mobile dashboard.
If the app does not load and you see a Retry button, check your internet connection and tap Retry. The mobile app requires an active network connection to authenticate.
Accessing from the Desktop Sign-In Page
If you are on the desktop sign-in page and want to switch to the mobile app, click the "Trying to log into the mobile app? Click here" link at the bottom of the sign-in form. This will redirect you to the mobile application.
Forgot Your Password
If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it from the mobile app.
Steps
- On the sign-in screen, look for the Forgot your password? option.
- Enter the Email address associated with your Appello account.
- Tap the Reset password button.
- Check your email inbox for a password reset link. Follow the instructions in the email to set a new password.
If you don't receive the reset email within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder. You can also reset your password from the desktop web application.
Installing the App to Your Home Screen
Since Appello mobile is a PWA, you can install it to your device's home screen for quick access. Once installed, the app opens in its own window without the browser address bar, providing a more app-like experience.
iOS (Safari)
- Open your Appello mobile instance URL in Safari.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the name and tap Add.
Android (Chrome)
- Open your Appello mobile instance URL in Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
- Tap Add to Home screen (or Install app if prompted).
- Confirm the name and tap Add.
After installation, the Appello icon will appear on your home screen. Tapping it will launch the app directly.
Signing Out
To sign out of the Appello mobile app:
- Open the app menu or navigate to your profile/account settings.
- Tap Sign out.
You will be returned to the sign-in screen.
Troubleshooting
- App won't load / Retry button appears -- Ensure you have a stable internet connection. The mobile app requires network access to connect to the Appello servers. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Incorrect credentials -- The mobile app uses the same credentials as the desktop web application. Double-check your email/username and password. Passwords are case-sensitive.
- PWA not installing -- On iOS, you must use Safari to install PWAs. On Android, use Chrome. Other browsers may not support the "Add to Home Screen" feature.
- Push notifications not working -- Ensure notifications are enabled for the app in your device settings. On iOS, you may need to allow notifications when prompted after signing in.
Security Recommendations
- Use a strong password -- Choose a password that is at least 8 characters long and includes a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Lock your device -- Always use a PIN, fingerprint, or face recognition to lock your mobile device.
- Sign out on shared devices -- If you are using a shared or borrowed device, always sign out when finished.
- Keep your credentials private -- Never share your username or password with others. Appello administrators will never ask for your password.
